Artist: Zee Avi

Album: Zee Avi's Nightlight

About: This album is perfect for getting kids to unwind after a long day.  As the title suggestions this album is full of wonderful lullabies.  There are covor songs such as "Don't Worry Be Happy," "Colors of the wind," "Rainbow Connection" and more that have a striped down relaxing sound.  This album is a favorite in my house around bedtime....and any any other time of the day too! : )

Artist: Donovan Frankenreiter

Album: The Heart

About: This artist is often compared to Jack Johnson.  Which is not a bad thing because if you love Jack Johnson as much as I do you will most certainly love Donovan Frankenreiter.  This album has an easy going folk sound that you will make you want to sit by a bonfire on the beach.  So if you want to slow down a little, but want some heart and soul, this album is for you.

Well, we made it to the end of the year and although I missed a month here or there I hope you have enjoyed checking out these new albums.  If you haven't yet, there is a still time! I hope these suggestions have shown you that there is music out there that is not on the radio.  the top 100 may be the trending music in the country but it doesn't mean that it's appropriate for young listeners or that it's the only music that is being created that's enjoyable to listen to. For my final album picks for this school year I have chosen two albums that inspire adventure and also a journey of self love and friendship.

Artist: Okee Dokee Brother

Album: Through the Woods

About: I don't mean to play favorites but I left the very best for last.  This album by the Okee Dokee Brothers is a HUGE favorite in our household. It is an incredibly fun, silly, exciting, and meaningful album.  It tells an adventure of hiking the Appalachian trail through fun songs that kids will adore while also including good life lessons that will get you wanting to love the world and people around you.  This album is also just one of a three part adventure series.  They have two more about a Mississippi River canoeing adventure and a horse back western album.  All three are amazing and should be part of your soundtrack for the summer.  ENJOY!

About: This artist is also a favorite of mine and his new album does not disappoint.  Trevor Hall's music is influenced by alternative rock, folk, and reggae.  His lyrics have deep meaningful insights about love and equality. He focuses on grounding yourself with love for others and yourself, and searching for peace.  This is a must listen if you want to slow down and enjoy the surrounding around you.
