Week 6

This week, there is nothing new, I want you to keep working on your new note E and feel comfortable with it.  Next week I will be giving you a recorder writing assignment that involves creating your own song using the notes B, A, G, and E!  You will have a few weeks to complete this assignment, so you don't feel rushed.

Week 5

It has come to my attention that some students did not bring their recorders home from school and that is OK! Getting your recorder from school is not the priority right now. However, if you do have your recorder, keep practicing because next week after Easter I will be posting a video, teaching you a new note!!! I have also gotten a few videos of you playing your yellow and orange belts! Keep them coming! I LOVE watching them and seeing you play!

For those of you who do not have your recorder at home, please still watch the video next week because recorders continue next year and the information will be helpful.  However, I thought it might be fun for you to make your own wind instrument! The recorder is a very early wind instruments, which means you use your breathe to make a sound. I have two options for you to try! You can try making a homemade kazoo, or a didgeridoo!  A kazoo requires you to hum into a tube, instead of just our air like the recorder.  I'm sure you have all seen a kazoo before! :)   But what is a didgeridoo you ask? A didgeridoo is a VERY long tube that people vibrate their lips and blow into to make a very long deep sound. It was developed in Australia 1,000 years ago and was used for ceremonial dances. Below is a picture of an indigenous Australian playing a didgeridoo.

Week 4

Happy Week 5 of virtual learning 4th grade! I thought it was time to learn a new note on your recorders! We have been one the first 3 notes for a while, and some of you, I'm sure, are ready to move on.  This week, I made a video to teach you the new note and a new song! woohoo! Click on the link below and it should take you to the video.  I am also adding a comment box below for you to ask any questions or to just say hi!  You're parents are also able to email any questions as well!

(Note: the directions ask you to use a mailing tube for the didgeridoo, you can also use a paper towel roll or to make it longer, tape two paper towel rolls together!

Week 3

Ok, it's week 3 of being at home and doing our very best at remotely learning and well....keeping sane.  So this week, everybody has the same music activity.  Including you parents!!! This week, I want all of you you take a take a well deserve dancing break! Get up out of your chairs, put down any books, clear your mind from any worries, and just. move. your. body!  Get the whole family involved and choose an upbeat song to dance to! It can be just that! but here are some fun extensions to keep the fun going.

1. Have each family member pick a song to make the dance party longer.

2. Dance with a tissue on your head and try not to let it fall off.  If it does, catch it before it touches the ground!

3. Make it a freeze dance

4. Make it a song with fast a slow sections and change your dancing style

Check out my spotify playlist for some good music suggestions.  This playlist includes fun songs and games for the primary grades but also includes fun kid appropriate dancing music for all ages! Happy dancing! Let's try to keep up our spirits through some good old fashion (silly) dancing!

Weeks 1 and 2

Update: When you feel like you have mastered the orange belt, please share by emailing me a video of you playing it! I would love to hear and see it!

I can also give suggestions or answer questions you may have.  Happy Practicing!

4th grade is working on playing their recorders. Students should have the yellow belt in their music folder and should be practicing that song.  Below is the orange belt "Merrily we roll along" to move on to the next step. There are no new notes in the orange belt, but students should be practicing reading the notes B, A, and G on the musical staff. In addition, the recorder fingering chart and an extra recorder duet to practice notes B and A is attached.
