Week 6

This will be my last music activity for the year.  This week we would have had our May Procession and Ascension Thursday is this week!  So, click the link below to sing Mary Songs with Me!!

I'd like to take this week as a music catch up week.  I have heard from a few of you that have handed in the Gershwin worksheet but I'd like to hear from more of you! So, If you are able, please either turn in the worksheet and/or make a comment in the comment box below about something you liked about the movie, of his Rhapsody in Blue.   I would love to hear from you!  (This is also possibly the last week I will have time to grade things in a timely manner because my baby is due next week!  So, please pray for me, and I will make sure Mrs. Healy sends out an announcement and picture when it happens.)

Weeks 4 & 5

For the next two weeks, I would like you to try and watch the musical "An American in Paris".  All of the music and songs in this musical was written my George Gershwin and his brother Ira.

Musicals written in the 50's are very whimsical and artistic and also have dream sequences.  Notice how the music supports character emotions.

Since I am not able to show you this movie myself you do need to rent of buy online.  If this is a problem, please do not feel obligated to watch the movie. This is just a wonderful movie to finish up our learning of Geirge Gershwin.  It's also a nice excuse to watch a movie with your family.

Enjoy!

Week 3

Ok, it's week 3 of being at home and doing our very best at remotely learning and well....keeping sane.  So this week, everybody has the same music activity.  Including you parents!!! This week, I want all of you you take a take a well deserve dancing break! Get up out of your chairs, put down any books, clear your mind from any worries, and just. move. your. body!  Get the whole family involved and choose an upbeat song to dance to! It can be just that! but here are some fun extensions to keep the fun going.

1. Have each family member pick a song to make the dance party longer.

2. Dance with a tissue on your head and try not to let it fall off.  If it does, catch it before it touches the ground!

3. Make it a freeze dance

4. Make it a song with fast a slow sections and change your dancing style

5 dance like different animals

Check out my spotify playlist for some good music suggestions.  This playlist includes fun songs and games for the primary grades but also includes fun kid appropriate dancing music for all ages! Happy dancing! Let's try to keep up our spirits through some good old fashion (silly) dancing!
