Week 6

This week I have provided a small line of music.  Please label each note. I have attached the recorder fingering chart so please feel free to use it! To turn in this assignment you can either take a picture of the completed paper and email it or send email me the order of the notes without the music.

Week 5

Here is a fun game to help learn the notes on the staff.  We have learned a lot of them from our recorder playing but this game tells you all of the notes on the lines and spaces. There is a key at the bottom of the page to help you.   Have fun making words with music!

Week 4

It has come to my attention that some students did not bring their recorders home from school and that is OK! Getting your recorder from school is not the priority right now. However, if you do have your recorder, keep practicing! I have also gotten a few videos of you playing. Keep them coming because I LOVE watching them and seeing you play!

For those of you who do not have your recorder at home, I thought it might be fun for you to make your own wind instrument! The recorder is a very early wind instruments, which means you use your breathe to make a sound. I have two options for you to try! You can try making a homemade kazoo, or a didgeridoo!  A kazoo requires you to hum into a tube, instead of just our air like the recorder.  I'm sure you have all seen a kazoo before! :)   But what is a didgeridoo you ask? A didgeridoo is a VERY long tube that people vibrate their lips and blow into to make a very long deep sound. It was developed in Australia 1,000 years ago and was used for ceremonial dances. Below is a picture of an indigenous Australian playing a didgeridoo.

Week 3

Follow the instructions on the website links provided to make the instrument of your choice!

(Note: the directions ask you to use a mailing tube for the didgeridoo, you can also use a paper towel roll or to make it longer, tape two paper towel rolls together!

Update: When you feel like you have mastered a belt, please share by emailing me a video of you playing it! I would love to hear and see it!

I can also give suggestions or answer questions you may have.  Happy Practicing!

If you have already earned your black belt please start playing the extra recorder songs and duets :)

Ok, it's week 3 of being at home and doing our very best at remotely learning and well....keeping sane.  So this week, everybody has the same music activity.  Including you parents!!! This week, I want all of you you take a take a well deserve dancing break! Get up out of your chairs, put down any books, clear your mind from any worries, and just. move. your. body!  Get the whole family involved and choose an upbeat song to dance to! It can be just that! but here are some fun extensions to keep the fun going.

1. Have each family member pick a song to make the dance party longer.

2. Dance with a tissue on your head and try not to let it fall off.  If it does, catch it before it touches the ground!

3. Make it a freeze dance

4. Make it a song with fast a slow sections and change your dancing style

5 dance like different animals

Check out my spotify playlist for some good music suggestions.  This playlist includes fun songs and games for the primary grades but also includes fun kid appropriate dancing music for all ages! Happy dancing! Let's try to keep up our spirits through some good old fashion (silly) dancing!
