Week 6

I'd like to take this week as a music catch up week.  I have heard from a few of you that have handed in the John Williams worksheet but I'd like to hear from more of you! So, If you are able, please either turn in the worksheet and/or make a comment in the comment box from week 2 about the music you listened to or music you noticed in the movie.   I would love to hear from you!  (This is also possibly the last week I will have time to grade things in a timely manner because my baby is due next week!  So, please pray for me, and I will make sure Mrs. Healy sends out an announcement and picture when it happens.)

Weeks 4 & 5

We have been learning about John Williams and listening to movie music and picking out themes.  Hopefully you had a chance to listen to a lot of the star wars themes that John Williams used in the Star Wars movies.  He uses these themes to help support what is happening in scenes of the movie.

For the next two weeks, I would like you to watch Star Wars episode IV.  While watching, try to listen for the musical themes that I have on the spotify playlist.  Listen for the imperial march when Darth Vader is on the screen or being talked about. Listen for Princess Leia's theme and "the Force" theme that foreshadows Luke's journey to discovering the force.

Feel free to continue watching more of the Star Wars movies! Perhaps you'd like to watch all of them!  I recommend watching them in order of their release date!

I would like to add that this movie is rated PG so Parents must approve.

Enjoy!

Week 3

Ok, it's week 3 of being at home and doing our very best at remotely learning and well....keeping sane.  So this week, everybody has the same music activity.  Including you parents!!! This week, I want all of you you take a take a well deserve dancing break! Get up out of your chairs, put down any books, clear your mind from any worries, and just. move. your. body!  Get the whole family involved and choose an upbeat song to dance to! It can be just that! but here are some fun extensions to keep the fun going.

1. Have each family member pick a song to make the dance party longer.

2. Dance with a tissue on your head and try not to let it fall off.  If it does, catch it before it touches the ground!

3. Make it a freeze dance

4. Make it a song with fast a slow sections and change your dancing style

5 dance like different animals

Check out my spotify playlist for some good music suggestions.  This playlist includes fun songs and games for the primary grades but also includes fun kid appropriate dancing music for all ages! Happy dancing! Let's try to keep up our spirits through some good old fashion (silly) dancing!

Week 2

Read through the musical elements worksheet and then listen to the first minute of each John Williams movie theme music from the Spotify link. As an extra challenge, ask a family member to play each track and try to guess the movie!! Then, choose one track to comment on in the comment box below.  Please use at least one example of a musical element.

e.g. The short rhythms of the brass instruments in the empirical march from star wars gives a sense of power and strength which depicts Darth Vader as a strong enemy.

Week 1

Read through John Williams' biography and then fill out the worksheet.

When you are finished, please share the document with me through google docs or take a picture and email the completed worksheet.
